ELEO to expand considerably with new battery production plant

Back to overview

ELEO - the manufacturer of advanced battery systems - will expand considerably with a newbattery production plant at the Automotive Campus in Helmond. In the new facility, the annual battery production capacity increases tenfold to 500MWh – equivalent of approximately 10,000 battery packs. Construction has already started and is expected to be completed by mid-May 2022.

The new battery production plant covers an area of 3,000 m2 with the possibility to expand to 4,000 m2. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machines to enable a fully automated battery assembly process in the cleanroom. To remain on the forefront of the industry, the facility houses high-tech R&D labs to further develop the battery technology. There is also room for various test facilities, paddocks, assembly and warehousing. The building will run on renewable energy thanks to the large solar array on the rooftop.

ELEO currently employs 27 people. Within three years’ time, it is expected that over 200 people will be working on the cutting-edge battery systems in Helmond.

After the successful market introduction in 2020, the facility expansion is a necessary step to realize ELEO's growth ambitions. Earlier this year, Lumipol Group was already attracted as an investor to support this growth.

“With our advanced batteries we enable the electrification of a wide variety of industrial machinery.” explains Bas Verkaik, co-founder of ELEO. “Due to the enormous growth, our current production location soon proved to be too small. We are pleased that, in collaboration with the campus and construction company Van de Ven, we have found a suitable parcel where we can expand our company and further scale up internationally.”

Lex Boon, Managing Director at the Automotive Campus Helmond: “The journey ELEO has made, from student team to becoming an industry leader in battery technology, is truly special to behold. We are extremely proud that a company like ELEO, that’s going to play a major role in the Dutch and European battery ecosystem, can expand at the Automotive Campus. We can’t wait to see what the future will bring for ELEO.”
